This project was an exploration of the educational possibilities of augmented reality. I remember filling out vocabulary worksheets like this in biology class, and I thought it would be really beneficial for students to look at a 3D model and zoom in and out. It’s a more visceral experience compared to just looking at a diagram on a page. I found a 3D model of an animal cell made by Lauri Purhonen on Sketchfab and adapted it using Blender to include a few more cell structures, a more varied color scheme, and labels with definitions from the Encyclopedia Britannica. Finally, I designed the vocabulary worksheet in Illustrator and augmented it using ZapWorks Studio. With the Zappar app, you can scan the code and open a link to view the 3D model on Sketchfab.
